Youth Cycling Education
Bicycling is a panacea. It contributes to personal and environmental health and sustainability and it helps to make our towns and cities calmer and more livable. For kids, bicycling means health, freedom and responsibility.
Cycle-for-Health
Our Cycle-for-Health classes teach the how’s and whys of cycling and its benefits, going further in-depth with each successive grade level.

Cycle-for-Health comes in three sizes.
“Cycle-for-Health Basic” is a 50-minute rollick through the basics of the bicycle and bicycling designed for school gymnasiums, auditoriums or cafeterias. Three 50-minute sessions (a half day) has school kids prepared to hit the streets (sidewalks and bike paths) with good safety and bicycle handling technique tucked into their heads. Each 50-minute session is customized to the appropriate grade level (2 through 12) and includes individualized helmet fitting along with a quick review of nutrition and hydration do’s and don’ts. Kids walk out with a helmet fitting guide and a bicycle safety reference card. Maximum of around 100 attendees per session. Helmets can be provided to those of lesser means through a grant from the RI Departments of Transportation and Health.
“Cycle-for-Health Plus” includes discussion of the safest way to ride to your school using slides and handouts with satellite photos to discuss various alternative routes. Three sessions are last about 90 minutes and can be up to 200 in size. There is flexibility to size the session to fit your school’s schedule.
“Cycle-for-Health Deluxe” is a half, weekend-day session that includes bicycle handling skills workshops for kids and parents. Usually staged in a school parking lot, Cycle-for-Health Deluxe will work anywhere there is room to work with kids and adults on bicycles.

Cycle-for-Health Summer Camp Course
Our courses for summer camps are highly customizable to your program. We include all of the basic Cycle-for-Health material but can emphasize specific topic you may be working on like
ecology or carbon footprint or endurance. One example would be to discuss how vegetation recycles waste gases expelled by bicycle riders vs processing of waste gases from motorized vehicles. Additionally, if your campers bring their bicycles for the day we can deliver our full Cycle-for-Health CycleSmarts Skills Course.

What People Say About Our Kid’s Classes
Thanks to US Open! Cheers to Richard Durishin for teaching our kids to bike. This enabled us to take them on vacation to ride on the carriage trails in Arcadia National Park. We ended up with pint sized cycling maniacs that slept 14 hours straight! ~ Dianna Shaw
Thanks for the great bicycling workshop! It really helped my trail biking team a great deal. It was also tremendous that you were able to adjust the workshop to the appropriate age groups without any issues. Thanks, Lisa. ~ Kingston’s Camp, Peace Dale, RI
