Why Wear a Helmet, Part II
Posted by: | CommentsA couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the importance of wearing a helmet. Remember, helmets are for situations you cannot control…like wild Impalas. Though most Impalas in America are of the four-wheeled variety you will see, if you watch this through to the end, how a helmet can make a difference. Consider this: the argument against wearing a helmet in the setting in this video would go something like this: “Hey! Man! You’re riding on grass, what could happen?” Remember, helmets are for situations where even the best riding skills won’t help.
Is a Bicycle Really More Efficient Than a Car
Posted by: | CommentsHere is an article from one of my favourite web sites: The Truth About Cars. While there are multiple factors to consider – some of which are not here – I think this makes an interesting read. You can find the full article by clicking on the graphic below.
Even the best need helmets…
Posted by: | CommentsIvan Basso, winner of last year’s Giro d’Italia, crashed a few days ago while training for July’s Tour de France. Guess what, kids, Ivan WAS wearing a helmet. And you should too!
Why the pink?
Posted by: | CommentsWell, it isn’t just pink! It is the color of the Maglia Rosa, the leader’s jersey of the Giro d’Italia – the Tour of Italy – which starts this Saturday (May 7).
The Giro is one of the three Grand Tours (Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana). In my own estimation, the Giro is the best of the three – by pretty far. The climbs are tougher, the pomp and circumstance is, well, Italian and the whole experience is just more of a blast – and more of a spectacle. For example, here are a couple of pictures from the 2010 Giro. I think that the “muddy” one of Alexandr Vinokourov and Cadel Evans may be the best pro cycling photo since the days of Eddy Merckx.
There are many web sites from which to take in the Giro.
If you want Giro news – go to CyclingNews.
If you want to stream the broadcasts, you’ll find a listing at Steephill.
And, if you want as complete an experience as possible (short of flying over) of the 2011 Giro d’Italia you can only go to Pez (it will make you jealous that you didn’t go to see it in person)!
We’ll have more on the Giro during the month. But, for now, Ciao!
