Why the pink?
Posted by: | CommentsWell, it isn’t just pink! It is the color of the Maglia Rosa, the leader’s jersey of the Giro d’Italia – the Tour of Italy – which starts this Saturday (May 7).
The Giro is one of the three Grand Tours (Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana). In my own estimation, the Giro is the best of the three – by pretty far. The climbs are tougher, the pomp and circumstance is, well, Italian and the whole experience is just more of a blast – and more of a spectacle. For example, here are a couple of pictures from the 2010 Giro. I think that the “muddy” one of Alexandr Vinokourov and Cadel Evans may be the best pro cycling photo since the days of Eddy Merckx.

And, if you want as complete an experience as possible (short of flying over) of the 2011 Giro d’Italia you can only go to Pez (it will make you jealous that you didn’t go to see it in person)!
